Guides that rely on professional reviewing staffs use different reviewers for different geographic locations, creating the potential for inconsistencies across locations. Survey-based guides attempt to address this problem by allowing participants to vote for any restaurant they have visited regardless of its location, but because they don’t place a greater emphasis on the opinions of more experienced diners—all votes are considered equally—these guides are also subject to inconsistency and are less reliable than they could be.
